Does anyone else use the 1860 Army .44? I have been working up a few different loads for it since I compete with the gun, and would like to maybe switch from round ball to conical. Here it is with one of its two bronze medals. Photobucket

pretty shooter

David, Pretty shooter! My EMF Pieta 1860 is a "plain Jane", but shoots very well. When I do my part, the holes all touch at 25'.

What is your load ? Conicals or round? FF or FFF?

I usually try to keep it

I usually try to keep it around 20 grains, but lately it seems that 15 and a  .454 roundball gives me the best accuracy. I know some think its heresy, but I use Hodgdons 777 3f powder. I keep the loads low because that stuff burns 15% hotter than black powder.

Check out article.

The American Handgunner.com has a series by Mike Venturino about old Colts. It's a twelve parter but there's only 3 or 4 posted so far, interesting reading if you want to check it out. Chris

Yeah, I have a Pietta 1860 SAA and love to shoot it.  I use 40 grains of FFFG in mine, it makes a lot of smoke.

Mr. Venturino

I heard a rumor that Mr Venturino's health has been suffering, if so I'm sure we all hope him a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear that.

I don't know Mike (Duke) personally but I've read quite a few of his articles over the years and am sorry to hear he is ailing. Hope he gets better. Chris
