Can somebody with a Ruger New Vaquero please answer a couple of questions for me?
1) the diameter of the base pin
2) the length from the end of the main body (not the spring loaded transfer bar actuator) to the middle of the locking notch

Thanks

And, where the heck....

can somebody get a Belt Mountain base pin. I have tried calling them, but I always get the FAX. I have looked at my regular suppliers, and they either don't carry them or they list them as discontinued.

Belt Mtn.

Mike,
Last I ordered a base pin from Belt Mtn, I sent them an e-mail, printed out their order form, and mailed them my order with payment. A couple weeks later I got my base pin from them, with a personal note giving me a hard time for paying with a check that had Wolves on them.
I've heard some stories concerning fitting issues with new base pins, but the knurled pin fit right in like it was factory. No more walking out, even after shooting 100 rounds, including heavy handloads.
I'm pretty sure that belt mtn is a small outfit, so if no one picks up the phone, it goes to the fax line. I didn't appreciate the smart ass comment, but I did like their base pin.

Power Custom

Did a quick check, and Ron Power/Power Custom lists base pins from belt mtn. Look him up at power custom .com.

Wolves

It's a crackpot world. Anymore you get crabbed from one direction for having a wolf picture; turn around and get it from the other direction for not having one. When did we stop ignoring the nut cases? I realize that you, personally, have an affinity for wolves, but I like them best left in Alaska. But, I don't think either one of us would rant about it. Thanks for the info about Belt Mountain. My project with them is to see if any of their pins will work in my Beretta Stampede. I have tried email with no results. My Belt Mountain from my Super Blackhawk is a nice fit in the Beretta, but too long. I am hoping the New Vaquero model will be the right length. Otherwise, it's get a SBH pin and mill another groove.

Mike! Seriously, look up Power Custom .com, and get their phone # and call them. Ron Power is THE guy who invented the reverse pawl for Ruger SA's. They know what they are talking about, and they have what you need. Just do it. Aoowoooo! (Wolf Howl).

Wolf loaf

I like them wolfs ground up into a meatloaf with plenty of ketchup.  Don't eat any during the full moon though... :)  Yeah, I need to order some pins  for my NV and .44 Vaqueros. Thanks for the info.

Power Custom Base PIns

I called Ron Power, and he sent me a Vaquero base pin. It was too long for my Stampede, so I gave it to my son for his SBH 44. It tightened it up like you know what. I called Ron back and asked for a SBH pin shortened by 0.200". I had it in a couple of days, and it fit my Stampede perfectly. Looks great, too. Ron and Power custom are what make working with guns fun.
Thanks, Ron

Belt Mtn. Base Pins.

Belt mtn. is a one man operation and is usually overwelmed with orders. I have used them on ten flattops and waiting for one for a single six. Good product. Send a order form and bank check and you will get your pin. Hamilton Bowen uses them and that is about as good a recommendation as you can get.

Belt Mtn. Base Pins.

to mworkmansr:
I just recieved a base pin from keyle yesterday. It took on the outside about three wks. Only prob. is i have to send it back as i ordered it in ss for a single six polished ss and received a blue one. I'm sure he will make it right in short order. Send him an order form and bank check and I've found him to be Reasonably prompt. I have ordered 10 over the last yr. and  1/2 and have been satisfied. I've come to see a pattern. Those craftsman that are good you will have to wait but it is usually worth it . I hope that theoy is good on my leather order that is over a year from stated delivery time. It better be damn good or his name is going to be all over these blogs. Since he has gone full time leather it seems every gunwriter has gotten a holster order from him. Good luck

Reverse pawl

I didn't know Ron Powers invented the reverse pawl and I don't know if he installs. I know he is listed on Hamilton Bowens link list. It is no longer called power customs but power llc. The helm is now under the steering of Randall who I think is Ron's son. If he doesn't do the install ,Hamilton Bowen does and his work is top shelf. He has done about eight of my flattops along with his action work and it  makes  pulling the hammer back a pleasure.

Has anyone [other than a gunwriter] had any gunleather done by Mike Barranti? I've had an order with him going on a second birthday. I'm a patient person and the couple times I have talked to him my order is almost done. The last time was over 4 months ago.

Sorry to hear...

...don't want to make any excuses for Mr Barranti, I thought I heard a while back he wasn't taking new orders until he gets caught up. Always has seemed like a stand up guy, just stay after him, let us know.

You couldn't talk to a nicer guy and if his product is like his website I wouldn't hesitate to order from him again. My post was not a criticism but an inquiry from other subscribers if they had received any of his products and the time frame. Back to my belief that for the most part the craftsman that are at the top of their game will always have plenty of work but if they aren't within reason on delivery date barring beyond their control circumstances the word will get around and they run the risk of customer base dropping off. When I get my order and it meets what I see on the website and my conversations with Mike you will also see my praise of his product. As I've said I'm a patient person and willing to wait for a quality product. If I lived close to him I would beg him to teach me his craft and sweep his floors etc. Only for my own use.

On another subject concerning Colts New Frontier:
When they started showing up in the gunmags. I put 1/2 deposit of msrp with the said sole distributor through the ffl that I use. Over a 2 1/2 yr. wait still nothing. I called Colt twice and asked about their production schedule of the gun. The sales person on both ocassions laughed so hard I thought he was going to get a stomach ache. I finally gave up and retrieved my deposit. As much as I would like to have the colt I put it down as type colt. All smoke and no fire. I bought two Ruger Bisley Flattops instead [ they are twice the gun of the colt anyway]and sent them to Hamilton Bowen and let him do his magic along with Turnbull and Roy Fishpaw.
If anyone has had a positive experience with getting a New Frontier I would like to know you're magic.

Thanks

Thanks, Cariboo.
I needed to know in order to get a better base pin for my Beretta Stampede. Ron Power made one for me, and it tightened things up considerably. It had to be 2.200" in length. A bit shorter than the Vaquero, but he didn't charge any extra for the custom job.
I don't usually care for transfer bar designs, but the guy that sold the Beretta made me a deal I couldn't refuse, and it handles and shoots great. I even sweated over making some ivory grips for it.

Mike Barranti gun leather

Recent com. with Mike. My order should be on the way shortly. He called me to make a last check for any changes and to make sure order is correct. Am looking forward to seeing and using the new gear. Plan to order again from him. Also ordered a crossdraw holster and Belt from Bullard. Milt Sparks is making for single actions again. Ordered a strong side 4 5/8 and crossdraw 5 1/2 modified hsm with trigger anf sight releif cut-away. He doesn't have the mold for the flattop. i just have to send him the gun. My belt mtn. base pin exchange showed up in shout order and ordered two more in blue as I purshased two more flattops. One to go to Joe Perkins for the full monte to match the .44 he did for me. This one is a .45. He has changed his website name but Outlaw Grips will still take you there. Ivory grips #104 are the grips he put on my .44. The Bisley will be going to hamilton Bowen; D. Turnbull and Roy Fishpaw. Unfortunatly Ruger has changed their hammers on the single action inc. the bisleys to ss so now if you want color case hard. done you can't get the hammer done to match.Anybody know of anybody with a drawer full of hammers to fit the new model flattops in carbon steel i would sure like to hear from them. That brings my passion up to date. By the way I finally got my Bis. with new grips back from Dustin Linebaugh. I had to wait for them but they are exhibition grade and the fit is perfection. He does beautiful work but if you order from him make him swear on a stack of bibles on the delivery date. He's a heck of a nice guy and so is his dad John.
