Hello all.  I recently picked up a Ruger BH 44 special with 4 5/8 barrel.  I am looking at holsters and wanted some advice.  Besides Simply rugged, Mernickle and El Paso, would anyone recomend a belt holster company that they like.

Thanks

Hunter?

I have carried a Ruger convertible in the same barrel length in 45LC/45acp in a Hunter belt holster. Nothing fancy, but kept the gun in, and only worked well with a Hunter gun belt.   I am waiting for my first Simply Rugged pancake  to arrive. I ordered it for both my SW three inch model 36 and my 4" .22 Taurus. I want one holster for my normal farm and trapping gun and my favorite going to town gun.

My legs are short, and I can only carry 6" plus revolvers comfortably in a cross draw or shoulder rig.

I am hoping to try another Simply Rugged for my 6.5 inch Ruger later, in the hope it will ride higher.

holster makers

Hello, JBOGGS,
I have custom holsters from both Cedar Ridge Saddlery and Cochise Leather. They do fine work and are available to discuss your desires by email or phone.

A holster/beltmaker I really

A holster/beltmaker I really like is Rick Bachman  www.oldwestreproductions.com   Rick makes 1880s period holsters & belts that are really nice. He also makes some modern holsters that are just as nice. Check out his web site. I have several of his holsters & they are great.

For what it's worth, and I

For what it's worth, and I have been meaning to share this, I have a habit of dragging out my box o' holsters everytime I get a new handgun and seeing what fits. By happy coincidence I found that a Ted Blocker high ride 'Pancake" type (I think it's the 2DA) for a 4" "K" frame is a good fit for a Colt SA and IMO be adjusted when new (with a little wet molding to work a bit better with the front sight on the flat top .44 spl. My holster has logged a few mile with a 66 in it and stretched a wee bit and works fine with my Ruger. The next time I go up to Tigard I am going to stop by their place and suggest a couple of minor changes just for the Ruger. An advantage to this holster is that it can be switched to a cross draw, which I have done when being horseback was the order of the day.
