Hello from SE Texas!

I'm finally coming "back home"!
Back in the 1970s, I owned a Ruger Single Six, a .357/9mm Blackhawk, a Super Blackhawk, and another Blackhawk in .45 Colt/.45 ACP.  As our family grew, I was forced to sell them all, one by one, during the 80s.
Fortunately, I kept all of my dies and bullet molds for the .357, .44, and the .45 Colt.  Now the kids are all gone (2 of the three with college degrees) Mrs. Treetop and I find ourselves with some disposable income again!  Years ago, I vowed to someday own old model, 3 screw Rugers again, in the same calibers.
So far, in the last few months,I have bought two old model Rugers.  A Super Blackhawk 7 1/2" and a .45 Colt/.45 ACP also in a 7 1/2".  Both are in excellent shape and the SBH shoots great with my old load of 18.5 gr. 2400 under a Keith 429421.  I haven't shot the .45 Colt cylinder yet in my .45 Ruger, but the ACP cylinder shoots high at 25 yds. with the rear sight all the way down.  My old one did too and I understand the reason why.  The .45 ACP load was a 200 gr. H&G #68 with 5.2 gr. of WW 231, which is my standard practice load using my 1911.
After Christmas, I plan to resume my quest for an old model .357/9mm in 6 1/2" and a Super Single Six in 6 1/2".

I had almost forgotten how much fun it is to cast for, reload, and shoot these big bores!  Thanks for having me here at the sixgun forum!  Treetop.

Great Tale

Treetop, that's a great story and I hope you find the two you are looking for. I have often felt I should never have gotten rid of some of the guns I had long ago, a double 20 gauge that I foolishly traded to my brother or the old Ruger 357 I traded away for some other gun which never made up for it. I guess that's what makes it all so much worthwhile is the hunting and finding of long lost treasures. Glad to have you here, Chris

Welcome

The Ruger 3 screws are well worth collecting, reasonably priced,  and I haven't found one yet that wasn't a shooter, but  I do notice a HUGE difference with my .45 4-5/8" convertable,  way high with the ACP cylinder as well. Mostly use it to dispose of rounds that the Kimber and Para don't like.

Al, one of these days, I'm

Al, one of these days, I'm going to cast some 452423s and some 454424s and load them over appropriate powder charges in .45 ACP hulls to see if I can correct at least some of the POA/POI difference in my Ruger convertible...  Tt.

Keep us informed...

...I'm sure the appropriate combo can be found, I'm just lazy, and haven't spent the time to develop a load that I don't have much need for. Now if I was short on Colt brass I'd probably dig right in...

Thanks--
AL
