Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan 454

I have an Alaskan in 454.  I have had it a long time since about 2006.  Recently I was shooting some factory Hornady 240 grain 454 ammo and the crimp did not hold on the bullet.  I know the recoil can be stiff with the 454 but that was the first time I have experienced this..   Just wondering if anyone else had the same issue.   This has not happened with any of the hot 45 Colt loads that I have used in the gun.

No Reply to the above post.  Does anyone else like the Alaskan models in general?  I like the 454 version but it offers me a lot of flexibility.

Marc, Sometimes those short barrel revolvers can cause the bullet to jump its crimp with high intensity loads like the one you used........

That's kind of unusual with factory ammo to have the bullet jump the crimp.
Maybe contact Hornady and inform them of their problem, which is weird, given the quality of their ammo. You're probably putting a better
crimp on your heavy 45 Colt reloads. Could be just a bad batch that made it past QA/QC with uneven length. Maybe tighten your grip a tad and see
if that helps.

I contacted Hornady and they

I contacted Hornady and they want the back to test.  So I will send it back to them and see what they come up with.

Contacted Hornady.  They wanted the box back.  They told me they would look into it and get back with me.  They paid the shipping back to them and promised to make it right.  We will see what they come up with.  I will let you all know what happens.

The folks at Hornady sent me

The folks at Hornady sent me 2 new boxes of ammo and said the crimp was incorrect.  That is the update.
